Flora B. Trahanis
Flora Belle Helvey Trahanis, 90, of Winchester, Virginia, died Monday, October 25, 2010 in her home.
Mrs. Trahanis was born in 1919, in Bland, Virginia, the daughter of James D. and Kate S. Helvey. She was the owner and operator of the Rose Room Restaurant in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania for 25 years. Mrs. Trahanis was a member of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Winchester, Virginia where she was very involved with the Greek Festival. Her volunteer work often included “Meals on Wheels”.
Her husband, Spiros Trahanis, whom she married on August 6, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois, preceded her in death in August 2000.
Surviving is her son, George Trahanis of Brooklyn, New York, and sisters, Elizabeth Shanholtz and Annie Hambleton both of Winchester, Virginia. Four brothers preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 PM on Thursday, with a visitation from 1:00-1:30 PM at Dormition of Mary Greek Orthodox Church with Father Stephen W. Gousious officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Virginia.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
