Evelyn Wilfong
Evelyn Taylor Wilfong of Frederick County, Virginia, died August 24, at home.
Mrs. Wilfong was born in Shouns, Tennessee, in 1934, the daughter of Dessie S. Taylor and the late Wade Watson Taylor. She married the love of her live, Jack Linton Wilfong, Sr. on September 12, 1952.
She and her family lived in Springfield, Virginia from 1956 to 1988. During that time she worked both part time and full time for Melpar Corporation and then at Atlantic Research Corporation in Alexandria, Virginia, and was always available as a loving wife and mother. She often went with her late husband Jack when he traveled for his job and they continued to travel throughout the United States after their retirements. She and Jack moved to Winchester in 1988 when Jack, Sr. and Jack, Jr. opened Winchester Lawn and Garden. She loved to help out at the store where all the employees and many customers called her “Granny.”
Surviving with her mother of Mountain City, Tennessee, is her son, Jack L. Wilfong, Jr. and wife, Robbin, of Winchester, Virginia; daughter, Nancy W. Hayes and husband, Chip, of Burke Virginia; four grandsons, Albert M. Hayes, IV, Adam L, Wilfong, Sam T. Wilfong, Patrick W. Wilfong; two great grandchildren, Ezekiel Wilfong and Albert M. Hayes, V; her brother, Carroll W. Taylor and wife, Kathleen, of Annandale, Virginia and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, at 7:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Reverend William White officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, Mountain City, Tennessee.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home.
