Eric Lee Konopa, 36 of Winchester VA, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Winchester Medical Center.
Eric was born August 2, 1988, in Bethesda, MD, the son of Catherine Ann Burr, Wayne Leon Burr Jr. and the late Kevin Andrew Konopa. He is a graduate of John Handley High School, Class of 2006. His love for leadership guided him through 12 years of scouting where he achieved the Rank of Life Scout. Eric served our country as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps rising to the rank of Sergeant. During his decorated service he was active in the Global War on Terrorism and served two tours in Afghanistan. While in the Marines, Eric continued to expand his education through college courses and various certificates. He began his spiritual journey through the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Most of all, Eric loved spending time with his friends and family around the world through music, games and celebrating life. He will be remembered for his infectious smile, mischievous demeanor and unending love for family and friends.
He is survived by sisters, Kristine, Kelly, Sydney, Este, and Bree; brothers, Josh, Jeremiah, and Brody; paternal grandmother, Janet Konopa; as well as an abundance of aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends who have become family.
In addition to his father, Eric is preceded in death by his stepmom Terri; sister, Lindsay; paternal grandfather, Michael Frederick Konopa; maternal grandparents, Winifred Mae and John Wendel Hentschel; and great-uncle, Robert James Hentschel.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 6-8pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 11am, with Father Bjorn Lundberg officiating. Interment with military honors will be on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 2pm at Culpeper National Cemetery in Culpeper, Virginia.
