Eric Charles Gough

With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Eric Charles Gough. He passed away peacefully on January 31, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
He was a proud and dedicated Assistant Chief (retired) for the Department of Homeland Security with US Customs and Border Protection. He went on after retirement to an additional career as an instructor for the Department of Defense. He gave over 25 years of his life to serving his country. He was a dedicated professional known for his strong work ethic, commitment to justice, unwavering sense of duty, and protection of our nation’s borders. Eric’s leadership skills, faith, and compassion earned him the respect, admiration, and commendations of his colleagues and those he served.
As much as Eric accomplished in his professional life, his greatest passions were his faith in Jesus and devotion to his wife, children, siblings, and mother. However, we all know his most outstanding achievement was being “Eppa” to his wonderful grandchildren. They truly adored him. He was a man of strong Christian character and integrity and lived a life filled with genuine love, laughter, and great joy. He shared his life and love for Christ with everyone he met. Eric will be remembered not only for his excellent skill at all he accomplished but for his infectious smile, kindness, generosity, and warm spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Eric touched the lives of countless people and left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
He left behind a legacy of service, devotion, and love. He was an excellent example of living a life committed to Christ. He will forever be remembered for his selflessness and unwavering commitment to his family, friends, and country. Eric has entered the rest and peace of where He was created to be, in the arms of Jesus. May his memory live on in the hearts of those he loved.
His memorial service will be Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Omps Funeral Home in Winchester, Virginia, beginning at 11:30 am, with a reception immediately following the ceremony.
