Elsie T. Hubbell
Elsie Tschudin Hubbell, 97, departed this life on September 6, 2014. She was born in Rhinebeck, NY on February 4, 1917, to Bertha Ruegger Tschudin and Emil Tschudin, Sr. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, her three siblings, her three husbands, John Koch Schaefer, Leslie Howes Guilford, and Robert Lamson Hubbell, her sons-in-law, Guy Perry, and John Eustance, and her step-daughter, Marcia Bachman.
Elsie is survived by her three daughters, Jean Kane and her husband, Robert, Chloe Hammer and her husband, Steve, and Alice Perry, and her step-daughter, Nancy Eustance, six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, as well as by cousins in Basel, Switzerland, and nieces and nephews. A childhood friend since first grade, Esther Paskey, also survives Elsie.
Elsie’s family is grateful for the wonderful care that she received at Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury (SVWC) over the 17 years she lived there. She lived fully and well, enjoying family, gardening, reading, and her membership in Christ Episcopal Church, Winchester, VA, Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, New London, NH, and the other parishes she belonged to over her long life.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, September 12, at SVWC in Winchester, with burial to follow at a later date in Ashfield, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Fellowship Fund at SVWC, 300 Westminster Canterbury Drive, Winchester, Virginia, 22603, or Christ Church, 114 W. Boscawen Street, Winchester, Virginia, 22601 or to Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 52 Gould Road, New London, New Hampshire, 03257.
