Elsie L. Butcher
Elsie Louise Powell Butcher, 98, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2010, in The Willows at Meadow Branch.
Mrs. Butcher was born in 1912, in Kokomo, Indiana, the daughter of the late Earl R. and Grace A. Powell. She was a homemaker with a special love in guiding her family as well as a r a floor lady in several textile mills and J. Schoneman, a knitting mill in Winchester, Virginia. Mrs. Butcher was a member of Blue Ridge Grace Brethren Church, the founder of Bread of Life Bible Study and the Chaplaincy Program at the Willows at Meadow Branch. She served as a kindergarten teacher and Sunday School teacher at Grace Brethren Church.
Her husband, Johnny Lee Butcher, whom she married on June 23, 1929, in Kokomo, Indiana, preceded her in death on July 1, 1988.
Surviving are her daughters, Sandra Lee Dean, Brenda Lou Triplett and Linda May Duvall all of Winchester, Virginia; her son, William Powell Butcher of Broadway, Virginia; twenty grandchildren; fifty-one great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Smith of Kokomo, Indiana, Norma Cook of Ft. Meyers, Florida; brother, John William Powell of Cooksville, Tennessee and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her son, James Edward Butcher, two sisters, Dorothy Milligan, Evelyn Ferguson; one brother, Louis Powell, and two grandchildren, James Powell Butcher and Pamela Lynn Dean, preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend Vernon Bray officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be John A Butcher, Terrance W. Butcher, Gregory P. Smith, Paul D. Triplett, Brian K. Duvall and Brice K. Duvall. Honorary Pallbearers will be all Mrs. Butchers grandsons.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
