Elsie Catherine Beall, 98, of Berryville, Virginia passed away Monday, March 11, 2019, at Winchester Medical Center. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Beall, in May 2012.
Elsie was born in 1920 in Mt. Carbon, Pennsylvania. She was raised on a 600 acre dairy farm. Elsie served in the Woman’s Army Air Corp at Grenier Air Field Base in Manchester, New Hampshire from 1944-1945. Elsie used her G.I. Bill to become a beautician. She waitressed at the The Inn at Buck Hill Falls in the Pocono Mountains, the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, Florida, and Atlantic City, New Jersey. Elsie retired from Prince George’s County Public School System, where she was a school bus driver for 17 years. Her retirement home in Lake Holiday, Virginia was where she enjoyed nature, reading, and walking. Elsie and Richard enjoyed traveling in the Western United States, Alaska being her favorite place.
Surviving is a daughter, Janice E. Wealand (Thomas) of Sterling, Virginia and a son, James Hughes (Dee) of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Bethany Barsilou (Marc) of Highland Springs, Virginia, Robert Wealand (Megan) of Round Hill, Virginia, Daniel James Hughes (Denise) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Megan Catherine Hughes of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania; three great grandchildren, Blake, Brady and Andre; sister, Anna Mae Verry of Myerstown, Pennsylvania; and brother, Earl Walker (Helen) of Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
A visitation will be from 11 am to 12 pm on Friday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with a funeral service at 12 pm. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Winchester, Virginia. A luncheon will be served immediately following the service at Omps Funeral Home Reception Center, South Chapel.
