Ellen M. Cochrane, age 100, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at her residence at Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury in Winchester, Virginia.
Ellen was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1916, the daughter of the late Spencer J. and Alice F. McCallie. Ellen attended Agnes Scott College and received her degree in interior design from Parsons School of Art in New York City. She worked as an interior designer in New York City and Chattanooga, Tennessee before starting a family and becoming a homemaker. She was a member of the Winchester Church of God. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend to many.
Ellen’s late husband, Captain Richard Lull Cochrane (Ret., US Navy) preceded her in death on January 7, 1997. They were married on April 14, 1942 in San Francisco, California.
Ellen is survived by her daughters, Charlotte C. Hart (Ron) of Atlanta, Georgia, Ellen Cochrane of Alexandria, Virginia, and Katharine C. Hart of Arlington, Virginia; her son, Richard L. Cochrane (Julie) of New York City, New York; her grandchildren, Hastings, Christine, Alice and Ellen; and her great grandchildren, Weston and Ashlyn.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her step-mother, Katharine Pierce McCallie and five siblings.
A memorial service will be Saturday, February 25th at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury. Rev. Elizabeth Lewis and Pastor Darrell Waller will be officiating. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
