Elizabeth S. Elzey
Elizabeth Steen Elzey, 67, of Stephens City, Virginia, died Saturday June 7, 2014, in VA Medical Center, Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Ms. Elzey was born in 1946, in San Francisco, California, the daughter of the late Neil D. and Gratia B. Elzey. She was a graduate of Yuba College in Marysville, California receiving an Associates of Arts Degree. Ms. Elzey was a Veteran having served in the United States Army as an LVN. She participated in the Skills for Stripes program which took her from an E3 PFC to a Specialist 6. She loved serving at Fitzsimmons AMC (Army Medical Center) and was VERY proud to be a member of the WAC (Women’s Army Corp). She was later employed in a variety of jobs mainly in customer service. During her life she was a member of Brownies/Girl Scouts of America, an office club for secretaries, Women’s Aglow (a Christian women’s group), DAV (Disabled American Veterans) and the VA (what a blessing they have been!). She also worked very hard to achieve a 4.0 GPA at Coconino Community College.
Her hobbies and passions included playing piano (which people truly enjoyed listening to), listening to music, encouraging people (and she was very good at it), reading her Kindle books and flower arranging. She also loved taking vacations to the beach and a cabin on the Shenandoah River.
She wants to be remembered as a happy person who was enthusiastic about life. She loved Jesus and her families and friends. She would wish for us to celebrate her and not mourn. If you wish to donate something in her name, please consider the palliative care unit at Martinsburg, WV and the American Cancer Society.
Surviving are three sons, Stephen Scott Stuart, Bret Joseph Stuart, Jesse Lee Stuart, two grandchildren, Hailee and J.J.; sisters, Jane Greene Kammer, Barbara Hume Stewart; brothers, Ray Hume Elzey, John Elzey; three step-sisters, Michelle, Allison and Julie; one step-brother, Jim Dougherty and her step-mother, Carol Ann Elzey.
