Elizabeth L. Salyan
Elizabeth Louise Hugill Salyan, 77, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away at her residence on Saturday, July 9, 2011.
Mrs. Salyan was born in 1933, in Hastings, PA, the daughter of the late William and Mary Hugill. She was a homemaker and attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. She served her community as a past docent at Belle Grove Plantation for thirteen years and a docent at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley for five years. She was a member of the Old Fredericktown Garden Club, co-founder of the Shenandoah Smocker’s Guild and was active in the Red Hats Society. She was a gifted seamstress with techniques in Old English smocking and French hand sewing. She volunteered as a judge for regional county fairs for floral arrangements and specialized hand sewing.
She married William Salyan on June 25, 1952, in Hastings, PA. They recently celebrated 59 years of marriage.
Surviving with her husband are four children, Janice Smith, and her husband, Trammel, of Winchester, VA, William Salyan, Jr. and his wife, Pamela of Gig Harbor, WA, Kathleen Salyan of London, England, and Daniel Salyan and his wife, Kristine of Fredericksburg, VA; six grandchildren, Amy DuBrueler McGrath and her husband, John, Megan DuBrueler, Broderick Thompson, Jacob Thompson, Connor Salyan, Ryan Salyan; one great-granddaughter, Olivia Marie DuBrueler; and a sister, Barbara Ann Kirk and her husband, Thomas of Warrenton, VA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Krempa and Father Dobbins officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
