Elizabeth Bailey Pickard Lint, “Betsy”, 74, of Winchester, VA, formerly of Norridgewock, ME, died at Winchester Medical Center on November 7, 2017, of pneumonia following illness with viral meningitis. A native of Durham, NC, she spent most of her childhood in Greensboro, NC, and attended public schools there. After graduation from high school, she moved to New York, New York, where she worked for several years. In 1972, she received the degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and in 1980, the degree of Masters of Science in Nursing from Catholic University, located in Washington, D.C. She worked as a visiting nurse in Washington and as a nurse and office manager in private obstetrics and gynecology practices in Northern Virginia from 1972 until 1986, when she moved with her family to Norridgewock. They maintained a farm on Wilder Hill Road and had a camp on North Pond where they spent their summers.
After her move to Maine, Mrs. Lint worked for a short time as a nurse at the Maine state well baby clinic in Skowhegan, ME, but then turned her attention to public service. She held elected positions as a Norridgewock Selectman, Tax Assessor, and as a member of the Planning Board, and she helped develop the Norridgewock Emergency Response Service. She served on the Board of Directors of the Central Maine Red Cross and taught nutrition classes throughout the State. She was a volunteer with the University of Maine Center on Aging Senior Companion Program, and she and her husband were members of Servas International, an organization devoted to hosting foreign visitors in the United States. They also hosted in their home many visitors to the local high school. In 2012, she and her husband retired to Winchester.
During her youth Mrs. Lint studied to be a classical pianist and performed with the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra. She maintained a life-long love of classical music, which she listened to every day. She was an avid quilter and knitter, giving the products of her hand work to friends and family. In her young adulthood, Mrs. Lint was a serious hiker, backpacker, and mountaineer. She was proud of having climbed in the Grand Tetons in Wyoming and the Andes in Ecuador.
Mrs. Lint was proceeded in death by her parents Palmer Edward and Virginia Lee Pickard of Greensboro, and her sister Virginia Lee Pickard, of St. Augustine, FL. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Thomas Lee Lint, her daughter Erika Schaefer Busser and son-in-law Robert Busser, of Ashburn, VA, and four grandchildren.
No funeral service is planned. Omps Funeral Home in Winchester will handle all arrangements.
