Elaine V. Barney
Elaine V. Barney, 83, of Frederick County, Virginia died Saturday, March 8, 2014 in Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Center.
Ms. Barney was born in 1930 in Wardensville, West Virginia, the daughter of the late John D. and Mariah Barney. Ms. Barney was a graduate of Wardensville High School, the Valedictorian of the Class of 1948 and attended the University of Washington in Seattle. During her studies in Seattle, she was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. Ms.
Barney was employed by Channel 5, Washington D.C. and the National Cathedral in
Washington D.C. She was an Administrative Assistant with Transport Clearings in Seattle, Washington and Los Angeles, California, retiring in 1976.
Surviving is her sister, Louise Barney of Winchester; brother, Alton “Bud” Barney of Wardensville, West Virginia; niece, Kelly Stine; nephew, Tyler Stine; and great-niece, Autumn McDonald, all of Winchester. Many other nieces and nephews and a best friend, Alma Spaid of Silver Spring, Maryland, also survive her.
Two sisters, Ruth Barney Fine, Mary Barney Brooks and two brothers, John C. Barney and Charles Henry Barney, preceded her in death.
All services with Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, will be private.
