ELAINE K. BRANDT
Elaine Klimek Brandt, 68, of Winchester died peacefully on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Nantucket Cottage Hospital in Nantucket, MA.
Elaine Klimek was born April 17, 1946, in Middletown, CT, the daughter of Bruno C. Klimek and Regina K. Klimek. She grew up in Wethersfield, CT. She attended Wheaton College in Norton, MA, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History in 1968.
Elaine married William F. Brandt, Jr. in Wethersfield, CT on August 10, 1968. They lived in Hanover, NH and Boise, ID before moving to Winchester in 1973.
Elaine taught elementary school before her two daughters were born and was very engaged in the local community. She was an active member of the Winchester-Clarke Garden Club and served as a flower-arranging judge for the Garden Club of Virginia and the Garden Club of America. She had previously served on the boards of directors of Powhatan School, Healthy Families, Blandy Experimental Farm, Long Branch Plantation and Westminster-Canterbury. She volunteered on the alter guild at Christ Episcopal Church. Elaine was also an active member of her bridge groups, Books Etc. and the Junior Century Club.
She loved gardening, her dogs, reading, golfing, traveling and spending time with her husband and family in Nantucket Island, MA and Jupiter Island, FL. She also dearly enjoyed the company of her many wonderful friends.
Elaine is survived by her husband William F. Brandt, Jr.; her daughter Alison E. Brandt; sister Regina S. Klimek; sister-in-law Gloria Hildreth; nieces Laura DeSimone, Christine Sipples and Belinda Hildreth and nephew Derek Hildreth. She was preceded in death by her daughter Sarah E. Brandt in 2007.
Her life will be celebrated at a memorial service on Saturday June 28, 2014 at 11 am at Christ Episcopal Church in Winchester, with Reverend David Bicking officiating.
