Beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Elaine Gus Sardelis, born on August 27, 1938, passed away, March 7, 2016 at her home surrounded by family. Born in Winchester, VA, the daughter of the late Gus and Marie Sardelis. She was a graduate of Handley High School, Class of 1957, where she was class secretary and homecoming queen.

She married Jerry Headley in 1961. As a military wife she traveled throughout the United States and Europe, but Winchester was always home. She and her daughters spent many summer vacations in Winchester with extended family. She worked for C & P Telephone Company, F & M Bank and Colonial Arts & Crafts.

Elaine was a loving mother who was dedicated to her daughters, grandchildren and a large extended family. She was not known for her cooking but for her fine taste and style. She appreciated the finer things in life – family gatherings and stories shared by friends and family. She was loved by many and will be remembered for her warm smile and laughter.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Jimmy Sardelis and George Sardelis and one sister, Mary S. Kirk.

Elaine is survived by two daughters, T. Leigh Headley of Winchester and Rhonda Headley (Mark Brewer) of Middletown; two brothers, Steve Sardelis (Bobbie) of Lady Lakes, FL and Billy Sardelis (Sandy) of Winchester; three granddaughters, Alexandra, Kate and Sarah; grandsons, Daniel and John, 3 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews and their children.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 10, 2016, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, Winchester, Virginia

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016, at 3:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Sardelis, Nick Sardelis, Doug Sardelis, Chuck Sardelis, Jimmy Armel and Freddie Armel.
