Edward Thomas “Ed” Nauer, 75, of Stephens City, Virginia passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Nauer was born in 1943 in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of the late Xavier and Margaret Nauer. He was a stellar high school athlete, lettering in baseball, basketball, and football. Mr. Nauer graduated from St. Peter’s University in Jersey City, New Jersey earning a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing. He was a Logistician for Technicon, which is now Thermo Fisher Scientific in Middletown, Virginia and later Warehouse Manager at Family Dollar Distribution Center. Mr. Nauer was past District Deputy of the Knights of Columbus, as well as a Grand Knight five times. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and enjoyed doing the Outreach Christmas tree and was also an adorer in the Sacred Heart Adoration Chapel. Mr. Nauer enjoyed golfing, bowling and was an avid Redskins fan. His greatest passion was family…..especially spending time with the grandchildren. He would faithfully attend their sporting events and anything they were involved in. He is a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother that will be missed.
He married Joan Ricklefs on August 27, 1966 in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey.
Surviving with his wife of 52 years are daughters, Cynthia “Cindy” Simmons (Gary), Peggy Timberlake (Tyler), and Laura Gaither (Kermit); grandchildren, Austin, Evan, Ryan, and Kayla Simmons and Ciara and Olivia Gaither; granddogs, Max Simmons and Coalie Timberlake; sisters, Alicia Cruz (Roberto) and Anne DeBose (Will); brothers, Christopher Nauer (Susan), Franklin Nauer (Diana), and William Nauer (Kathleen); and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 pm to 8 pm on Thursday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with a rosary service at 7:30 pm.
A funeral mass will be conducted at 1 pm on Friday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Reverend Bjorn Lundberg officiating. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum, Winchester, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ed’s memory to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, Virginia 22601 or dried/canned foods will be accepted at the family gathering to donate to CCAP.
