Edward Flagg Golightly, Jr.
Edward “Sonny” Golightly, Jr., 87, of Winchester, VA, died Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Hilltop House in Winchester, VA. Sonny was the oldest of nine siblings born to Edward Flagg Golightly, Sr. and Eva May Violet Golightly. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Ann White Golightly.
Sonny served three years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Tokyo, Japan, in GHQ, beginning in 1947. He worked for 16 years at Food Machinery Corp. (FMC) in Fredericksburg, VA, and 23 years for the Department of Defense in Washington, D.C. He retired in 1988. As an avid fisherman, Sonny was a member of the Izaak Walton League.
Edward is survived by a brother, Robert Dean Golightly (Elmora) and a sister, Judith Golightly Samuelson (Larry) of Ridgeley, WV.
A committal service will take place on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Pastor David Witt officiating. Interment will follow at Shenandoah Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Edward’s name to Opequon Presbyterian Church, 217 Opequon Church Lane, Winchester, VA, 22602, or to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, VA 22601.
