Edward E. “Ed” Conroy
Edward “Ed” Everett Conroy, 89, of Winchester, Virginia, died Tuesday, May 3, 2011, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Conroy was born in 1921, in Albany, New York, the son of the late Everett Dudley and Beatrice Jane Conroy. He was a Photographer with the United States Government retiring after 35 years of service. Mr. Conroy was of the Episcopal Faith. He was a member of the Winchester Moose Lodge 1283 and a Volunteer member of Shenandoah Shores Fire Department.
Mr. Conroy worked for the Evening Star Newspaper in Washington D.C. for 4 years before enlisting in the United States Navy, during World War II and Korea. He was in the Naval Reserves an additional 4 years. He then was employed at Peoples Drug Store in 7 Corners, Fall Church, Virginia, selling cameras and supplies for 20 years.
He married Lorraine Ann Johnson Conroy on June 23, 1945, in Washington D.C. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2005.
Surviving are his children, Joyce A. Conroy Griffiths of Winchester, Edward E. Conroy, Jr. of Sterling, Virginia, Janice E. Conroy of Woodford, Virginia, Michael W. Conroy of Front Royal, Virginia; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and his sister, Virginia Swanson, of Deland, Florida.
A funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 PM on Friday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Pastor David Witt officiating. Interment will be Saturday, May 7, at 11:00 AM in National Memorial Park, Fall Church Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Edward Conroy, Jr., Michael Conroy, Garrett Conroy, Eddie Conroy, III, Chris Conroy and Mark Dillow.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, prior to the service, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
