Edward E. “Big Ed” Hillyard, Jr., 76, of Winchester, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 in Winchester Medical Center.
Edward was born in 1943, in Winchester, Virginia the son of the late Edward E. Hillyard, Sr. and Margaret Hillyard. Mr. Hillyard attended James Wood High School, Class of 1963. He was a Plant Supervisor for Coca Cola in Winchester, Virginia and worked there for 31 years. He loved being with his grandbabies and attending all of their sports functions over the years. Big Ed loved his antiques and going antiquing with his wife, took great pride in his garage and was always tinkering around in there. The Redskins were still the team that he loved, no matter the outcome of the season.
Mr. Hillyard married Alice Joan Tobin on December 5, 1965 in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Angela Hillyard of Winchester, Virginia; son, Edward E. Hillyard, III of Winchester, Virginia; daughter in law, Jennifer Hillyard; grandchildren, Austin Hartman, Addison Hillyard and Mason Hillyard, all of Winchester, Virginia; and brothers, Thomas Hillyard and Donald Hillyard, both of Winchester, Virginia.
Along with his parents, Mr. Hillyard is preceded in death by a sister, Joanne Hicks; and brothers, Robert Hillyard and David Hillyard.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Pastor Alan Morrison officiating. Entombment will follow at the Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum. A reception will follow at Omps Reception Center, South Chapel.
