Edward Nelson “ Bunky” , 75, of Yellow Springs, West Virginia, died Monday, December 27, 2010 in his home.

Mr. Nelson was born in 1935 in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late David and Mattie Virginia Nelson. He was retired from Rubbermaid in Winchester, Virginia and a member of Victory Church.

He married Naomi Frances Myers on August 17, 1980.

Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Melissa Anderson of Yellow Springs, WV, Tammy Marco of Cross Junction, VA; Carol Weatherholt of Strasburg, VA; grandchildren, Quincy Nelson, Jaede Taylor of Yellow Springs, WV, Amber Smelser of Winchester, VA, Amy Marco, of Washington State, Carissa Braithwaite of Stephenson, VA; Rebecca Bowers and Sarah Weatherholt both of Strasburg, VA; seven Great grandchildren; four brothers, Ronald H, Nelson, Lavine “Ricky” Nelson, Paul L. Nelson, Marshall Scott Verzich all of Winchester, six sisters, Bessie Hamilton, Phyllis Combs, Laverne “Peggy” Myers, Barbara Corum, and Paulette Nelson all of Winchester, VA; and Michael Crisemon of Linden, VA and a host of nieces and nephews. One sister, Joyce Haley preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday at Victory Church with Pastor Harley Wigfield, Jr. and Pastor David Cunsolo officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Virginia.

Pallbearers will be Jason Scott Myers, Brian Nelson, Bryan Smelser, Brian Braithwaite, George Hott and Wayne Kerns.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jimmy Finley, Nathan ”Popeye” Williams, and Ken Brill.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Olive Branch c/o Victory Church, 2870 Middle Road, Winchester, Virginia, 22601.

Dear Family: I was deeply saddened to hear of Bunky's passing. I feel like I have lost a family member too! I have fond memories of Bunky growing up. My family and his were neighbors. Bunky and my mom loved music and would share the "latest sounds" with each other when one of them bought new music. Bunky was an inspiration to all of us, especially the youth who benefited from his important involvement in our early lives. He guided some of Winchester’s most talented young bands and musician’s, especially the Hi-lights of Soul. Little did we know that he would leave a lasting impression on us.
