Edna Mae Phillips, 94, of Winchester, VA passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, November 4, 2016. Edna was born on December 3, 1921 in Alexandria, VA to Joseph Mitchell Rogers and Florence Mae Simms. She spent most of her younger years in Alexandria, VA eventually moving to the Winchester area in 1977. Edna always spoke fondly of her early years working in the Ladies Dept. at Joliffes Dept. Store, C&P Telephone Co. as an Operator and as a Receptionist for Drs. Nicholson & Long in Alexandria, VA. Edna married James Lynwood Phillips on June 14, 1963 and became a full-time Home Maker. She deeply loved her family and home, taking care of both were the most important things in the world to her. She always showed gracious southern hospitality to all who entered her home. Edna loved to bake, creating her own recipes, sewing, growing african violets and following recent politics. In past years she volunteered for CCAP and the Women’s Auxiliary of Greenwood Vol. Fire Dept. Edna leaves behind her son Larry C. Sherertz (and wife Meg) of Washington, VA, her daughter Bonnie L. Young (and daughters Amber Young and April Young) of Stephens City, VA, her daughter Jamie L. Phillips (and fiancé Bryan Lloyd and son Chris Lloyd) of Winchester, VA, a special niece she felt was another daughter, Delores Wiberg of Locust Grove, VA and four great grandchildren. Her husband, Lynwood, passed away December 29, 1990. Special gratitude is felt for Edna’s friends, Michael and Curtis Beach.
