In loving memory of Edna Harper Chestnut age 86. She passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by the love of her family. A small woman with an enormous heart, she leaves behind a lifetime of love, warmth, generosity, and memories that will be cherished by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband Bobby. Their love story began as high school sweethearts and together they built a life centered around family and devotion to one another over 65 years.
Raised in the beautiful mountains of Highland County, Virginia, she was lovingly raised by her grandmother Kitty Mom and her Aunt Alice. Those early years helped shape the woman she would become, strong, caring, and deeply devoted to her family.
She was the daughter of Steven and Virginia Harper and one of four sisters, alongside Mary Lou, Judy, and Joan. The bond between the sisters remained strong throughout their lives. They stayed close through the years, sharing the joys, challenges, laughter, and memories that only sisters can share.
Family was always the most important part of her life. She loved her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family with her whole heart. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Michael, and her grandson, Steven, both whom she missed dearly and with whom she is now joyfully reunited. She was also preceded in death by her cherished grandmother, Kitty Mom, who played such an important role in her childhood and early years.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Teresa and her husband John and their children and grandchildren as well as her late son Michael’s daughter and grandchild, who were fortunate to be surrounded by Nana’s love, warmth, and generosity throughout their lives.
During her working years, she was employed at First Virginia Bank in Stephens City, Virginia, where she made many wonderful friends. Those friendships continued beyond her working years and became an important part of her life. She will be deeply missed by the many people in the Stephens City community who knew and loved her.
She will be remembered not for her size, but for the enormous love she carried in her heart. Her family was her greatest joy, and she gave them a lifetime of unconditional love, kindness, and
treasured memories.
She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through her family and all those whose lives she touched.
She was deeply loved. She will be deeply missed. And she will never be forgotten.
A service will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 2pm with a reception to follow the service all held at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be private.
