Edmond (Ned) Harrison Haugen, Jr., 88, peacefully passed away February 12, 2022, at home in Stephens City, Virginia. Ned was born in Evanston, Illinois in 1933, the son of Edmond Harrison Haugen, Sr. and Helen Methfessel Haugen of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Ned grew up in Birmingham, Michigan.

Ned served in the United States Army in Korea and Japan during the Korean War. Upon return, he attended and was graduated from the University of Virginia. After graduation, he began his business career at Melpar, Inc. in Falls Church, Virginia, where he met his wife, Esther Schleh Haugen. They married in 1969.

In 1973, he began a career as a technical representative with Xerox Corporation from which he retired 22 years later.

Ned was a believer in God and Jesus Christ and for many years attended Faith Bible Church in Sterling, Virginia, and Fellowship Bible Church in Winchester, Virginia. Ned was an avid railroad fan, a model railroading enthusiast, and a founding member of the Mountain State Railroad and Logging Historical Association, enjoying rail fan weekends at Cass Scenic Railroad every May. He also enjoyed photography, making silver jewelry, and building Heathkits. And he will be remembered for his ability to solve problems and repair EVERYTHING!  Ned loved both vegetable gardening and growing flowers, and was well-known for his spectacular marigolds and beautiful orchids. For many years, he was a member of the Lord Fairfax Orchid Society.

Ned is a proud descendent of John A. Roebling, the engineer who designed the Brooklyn Bridge.

Surviving with his wife is his loving daughter, Karen Haugen Snyder Pack (Chris Pack) and his precious grandchildren, Natalie Snyder and Jack Snyder. Also surviving is his sister Emily Talbert, and nephews, Jay Talbert and his children, and Stephen Talbert (Jennifer) and their children, as well as many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews in his wife’s family. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, John Haugen, and a brother-in-law, Joseph Talbert, Jr. and nephew, Peter Talbert.

Viewing and visitation for family and friends will be held Friday evening, February 25th from 6-8 pm at Omps Funeral Home South Chapel. A memorial service will be held at Fellowship Bible Church, Winchester, Virginia at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 26th. Burial with military honors will follow at Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Masks will be required for both the visitation and the memorial service per the family’s request.
