Edgar Warren Southard, Jr., 81, of Frederick County, Virginia died Thursday, January 12, 2017, at his residence.
Mr. Southard was born in 1935 in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Edgar Warren Southard, Sr. and Worth Southard. He was a graduate of Washington-Lee High School, Class of 1953. Edgar was a veteran having served in the United States Army. He was employed as a general manager of maintenance for Arlington Public Schools for over 45 years. Mr. Southard was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Arlington, Virginia. Edgar was truly one of a kind who was known for never knowing a stranger; he was truly a friend to so many. He will be greatly remembered for his love of hunting, fishing, woodworking and his sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, respected him, and loved him.
His wife, Helen Irene Schaeffer, whom he married on September 25, 1965 in Arlington, Virginia preceded him in death on December 29, 2014.
Surviving are daughters, Deborah Davenport and her husband, Larry of Leighton, Alabama and Janice Gray of Laurel, Maryland; sister, Miriam Schneiderheinze and her husband, Henry of St. Louis, Missouri; sister-in-law, Arlys Southard of Manassas, Virginia; brother, Gary Southard and his wife, Arlene of Fairfax Station, Virginia; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Along with his wife, Mr. Southard was preceded in death by brothers, Jerry Southard and Paul Southard.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Funeral Celebrant Joseph R. Dilleree officiating. A reception in Omps Reception Center will immediately follow the service. Interment will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Upperville, Virginia.
