Eddie Eugene McFarland, Sr. 78, of Gore, Virginia, passed away on November 23, 2023, at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center in Winchester, VA.

Mr. McFarland was born in 1945, son of the late Beulah and Leo McFarland. He was a retired Bus Driver with Frederick County Schools and owned a water delivery business.

Mr. McFarland enjoyed bluegrass music and followed his favorite band “Five of a Kind”.  He loved fishing, hunting, playing cards, gambling and old cars. He often went to Hollywood Casino and car shows. Mr. McFarland enjoyed yardwork/mowing as a hobby and loved spending time with his family, especially his dog, Moses, who was his best friend.

He is survived by his daughter, Crystal Merritt (Donald); son, Eddie McFarland, Jr.; grandchildren, Cassie Schrock (Cory) and Eddie McFarland III; great grandchildren, Allie, Cohen, Aubree, Caylee and Camryn. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Dorothy Myers and brother, Danny McFarland.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Mary Smith and two brothers, James and Leo McFarland.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

A graveside service will be conducted at Lamps United Methodist Church Cemetery on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 1:00 PM with Pastor Alan Morrison officiating.

We looked forward to seeing Eddie at many of the Five of A Kind music venues. We often spoke briefly with Eddie but never talked very long. When we were unable to get close enough to talk he would acknowledge us with a nod of the head. I have only known Eddie for six or seven years since l joined Five of a Kind Bluegrass Band. He was a fixture and someone we looked forward to seeing at most of our gigs.
