Earl Jay Moorehead, Jr., 65, of Winchester, VA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at Winchester Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Jay was born in 1955 in Colorado Springs, CO, son of Nadine Moorehead of Cambridge, OH and the late Earl Jay Moorehead, Sr. He graduated from John Glenn High School and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a Medic during the Vietnam conflict in the Green Berets. Jay earned an Associate’s degree from Lord Fairfax Community College and a Bachelor’s degree from Muskingum University. He was a Critical Care Registered Nurse at Winchester Medical Center.

Jay married Holly Todd on November 20, 1993 in Zanesville, OH.

Surviving with his mother and his wife are daughters, Heidi Ronshausen (Jimmy Burley) of Winchester, VA and Alyssa Biggers (Lucian) of Concord, NC; sons, Braden Ronshausen of Winchester, VA, Earl Jay Olinger (Sheryl) of Jacksonville, FL, and Darren Moorehead (Ali) of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Draytyn Ronshausen, Davian Burley, Daxtyn Burley, Logan Olinger, and Levi Moorehead; and sisters, Shelia Taylor of Cambridge, OH, Theresa Jackson and Alva Johnson (Bill).

All services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

Holly I am so sorry for your loss. I loved to work with Earl great nurse.

Earl was a wonderful guy and a great nurse, nothing fazed him and in nursing that is an important trait. I wish I had the chance to work with him more as it was always a joy to work with him. He was the kind of person that was very team oriented always helping everyone that asked for help.

Earl had a smile on face and so happy. I enjoy getting to know him and work with him at Winchester. Until we meet again.... Earl rest easy!!! ❤️

Earl was one very special person. He was an excellent nurse. He could have fun and be serious at the same time. His smile was contagious. Holly, I will keep you and the family in my prayers.

Earl was one of the most patient and caring nurses I have had the honor of working beside in my time at Winchester Medical Center. He helped precept me when I started at WMC and shared his vast nursing knowledge with me. I will miss his smile and cheerful “hello” in passing through the halls.

I truly loved every moment I worked with Earl. He was always a joy and has a lovely side of snarky. I am so saddened to hear he no longer is with us. Much love to all his family!!!

Always a respectful gentleman and astute professional, I enjoyed working with Earl. He always took the time to guide and teach when I floated to his unit. No matter how busy he was, if I needed a helping hand with a patient I could count on him to assist. He was a very stoic and serious man with a sharp sense of humor. Prayers for his wife Holly and all his loved ones.
