Dwellie William Ivey
Dwellie William Ivey, 89, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away, Sunday, January 17, 2009, at his residence.
Dwellie was born in 1921, in Augusta, Georgia, the son of the late Dwelle and Annie Mae Ivey. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II. Dwellie married Ella Mae Peterkin on September 24, 1949, in New York City, New York. He worked as a Postal Clerk with the United States Government, retiring in 1986, with 39 years of service. He was an extremely accomplished artist and a jazz aficionado. Dwellie was a member of the Prince Hall Masons and The Shriners. He also served as a Deacon at Friendship Baptist Church in New York.
Dwellie leaves to cherish his life, his wife of sixty years; a daughter, Glenda Bennerson and her husband, Alphonso of Front Royal; two sons, Rodney and his wife, Jennifer of Queens, New York and Okera of The Bronx, New York; eleven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. A grandson, Ralphie Edwards; and two sisters, Verma Talbert and Alease Ivey, preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at Shenandoah Farms Baptist Church on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. with the Pastor Jack Wampler, Sr. officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Hebron Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Shenandoah Farms Baptist Church on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M.
