Dr. Robert “Rob” Cecil Barnette, II, 60, of Winchester, Virginia, died Monday, October 24, 2016 at Winchester Medical Center.
Dr. Barnette was born in 1956 in St. Albans, West Virginia, the son of the late Robert C. and Maxine M. Barnette. He graduated from St. Albans High School, Class of 1974, attended and graduated from West Virginia University earning a Bachelor’s of Science degree, attended and graduated from Illinois College of Optometry earning a Doctorate degree. Dr. Barnette owned and operated many optometry practices, as well as working for other optometry businesses. He enjoyed black powder musket shooting, martial arts, and earlier in his life, loved to play Advanced Squad Leader (at which he was very skilled). Dr. Barnette was a current member of the Lions Club, past President and Vice-President of the Romney Rotary. During the 1980s, he traveled to Haiti on several mission trips through a church organization in West Virginia to provide free eye services, and was named National Doctor of the Year for Wal-Mart Eye Services while working with Wal-Mart in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Surviving is a son, Corey Barnette of Winchester, Virginia; sister, Beverly Fitzgerald and husband, Gerald of Ozark, Alabama.
Dr. Barnette was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Barnette, on January 18, 2016.
Rob’s family will receive friends on Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM in the afternoon at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
