Dr. Lionel Donald John Chisholm, 88, of Lake Frederick, VA, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Winchester Medical Center.

Lionel was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the son of the late Donald and Isabelle Chisholm. He graduated from the University of Toronto as a Doctor of Medicine in Ophthalmology. Lionel retired from the Virginia Retina Center in 2020. He was a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a Charter Member of The Retina Society, an active Founding Member of Schepens International Society, Canadian Medical Association, West Virginia Academy of Ophthalmologists, and the West Virginia Medical Association. He was a professor at the University of Toronto and WVU. Lionel was also a member of the Blue Ridge Hunt and (retired Social Chair), Chairman of the Hunt Committee of the Nantucket – Treweryn Beagles, Vice President of the Board of the Long Branch Historical House and Farm and a member of the Millwood Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Ann, whom he married in February of 1960, son, John Chisholm (Dione), grandchildren, Maxwell Nisbeth, Carson Nisbeth, Rylan Chisholm and Claire Chisholm and sister, Anne Chisholm.

Lionel is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Sarah Nisbeth Chisholm.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Lionel on January 2, 2024, at Long Branch Historic House and Farm in Millwood, VA.
