John Sebastian “Jack” Pulizzi, Jr., M.D., 81, of Cross Junction, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at his home, surrounded by family.
Dr. Pulizzi was born in 1935, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Isabel M. and John S. Pulizzi, Sr. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School (1953), in Williamsport, Pennsylvania; a graduate of Bucknell University (1957), earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology; and he graduated from medical school at Hahnemann University (1961). Dr. Pulizzi was a veteran of the United States Army, achieving the rank of Captain, and served just prior to the Vietnam era.
During his childhood years, he was in the first Little League World Series (1947), in Williamsport, PA; during high school he was Captain of the basketball team at St. Mary’s High School; and while attending Bucknell University, he was Captain of the tennis team. After graduating from medical school, he completed his internship at Williamsport Hospital, before entering the Army.
Dr. Pulizzi was prior president of the American Medical Tennis Association and Captain of the tennis team at Sleepy Hollow Racket Club, in Falls Church, VA. He was a family physician who opened his own practice (1961) in Alexandria, Virginia, where he practiced for 53 years. Dr. Pulizzi loved running, especially 10-k’s and marathons. His true passion was his family. A loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, that will truly be missed.
Dr. Pulizzi married Sandra M. Simpson on November 3, 1983, in Alexandria, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife are children, Diane Pulizzi Kerr of Wilmington, Delaware, John Sebastian Pulizzi, III (Laureen) of Edinburg, Virginia, Michael Jeffrey Pulizzi of Arlington, Virginia, Scott McLeod (Betsy) of Denver, Colorado, Keary Ritchie (Roger) of St. Louis, Missouri, and Heather House of Charlottesville, Virginia; grandchildren, Sarah, Alexander, Timmy, John, Nicholas, Anthony, Ava, Stephen, Olivia, Madeline, Sayer, Lilly, Isabel, Lucas, Colin, Roy, and Shane; brother, Henry “Hank” Pulizzi (Carol) of Potomac, Maryland; and mother of his children, Pearl Mae Wykoff of Alexandria, Virginia.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. 3rd Street, Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
A mass of Christian burial will be conducted by Father Brian Van Fossan, at 10:00 AM, on Thursday, October 5, 2017, at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 702 W. 4th Street, Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Interment will be in Wild Wood Cemetery, 1151 Cemetery Street, Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Serving as pallbearers will be John Pulizzi IV, Nicholas Pulizzi, Anthony Pulizzi, Benjamin Regester, Timmy Kerr, and Alexander Kerr.
There will be a time of food and fellowship to follow the services.
