Douglas W. Sirbaugh
Douglas Wilson Sirbaugh went home to the Lord on December 26, 2012. Doug was born October 31st, 1923 in Winchester, Virginia to Turner and Artie Sirbaugh. He attended John Handley High School. He proudly served as a medic in the United States Army during World War II. Doug married his beautiful wife, Gloria Juanita Ward, on September 1st, 1941.
Doug’s spiritual devotion, compassion for people, and friendly demeanor allowed him to befriend numerous members of the Winchester community. He was a founding member of Valley Avenue Church of Christ, currently Church of Christ at Mountain View, where he proudly served the Lord as a deacon. He was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for 37 years until his retirement in 1985. Upon retiring, Doug spent his time serving in the benevolence ministry, volunteering at the Lord Fairfax Area Food Bank, and bowling on various senior leagues.
In addition to his wife of seventy-one years, Doug is survived by his son, Dennis Sirbaugh (Ruth Ann) and his daughter, Linda Meadows. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Wendy Meadows Ford (Allen), Susan Sirbaugh Wasserman (Joe), Christy Meadows, Ryan Sirbaugh, and Christopher Sirbaugh (Kim); five great grandchildren: Kaitlyn Meadows Wright (Aaron), Sam Wasserman, Diana Wasserman, Ethan Ford, and Luke Sirbaugh; and two great-great grandchildren, Niyah Wright and Addison Wright. Doug also leaves behind a sister, Charlotte Baker, and a brother, Stewart Allen Sirbaugh.
He was preceded in death by a brother Charles Sirbaugh and a sister Frances Strother.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, December 30th from 2-4 pm at Omps Amherst Chapel. Doug will be laid to rest on Monday, December 31st. A service will take place at Church of Christ at Mountain View at 11:00 AM with Preacher Doug Hardman officiating and an internment with military honors will follow at Mount Hebron Cemetery.
