Douglas J. Umbenour
Douglas Jacob Umbenour, 73, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012, in his home with his loving wife and family.
Mr. Umbenour was born in 1939, in Berkeley County, West Virginia, the son of the late William Umbenour and Leona V. Nichols. He was a dock foreman at ZeroPack Co. for over 43 years until the closing of the plant, He also worked at Omps Garage for 8 years, retiring in May 2010.
Mr. Umbenour was known for his contagious smile and loving disposition. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who always put his family first.
He married Dollie R. Armentrout on December 2, 1962, by Reverend Charles Lafew at First United Methodist Church in Hagerstown, Maryland. They have been blessed to be married for “50” wonderful years that are full of loving memories that will last a lifetime.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Cecil J. Funk, Jr. and wife, Dorinda, of Charles Town, West Virginia, Terry Umbenour and wife, Stacey Madagan Umbenour; daughter, Karen S. Herring of Winchester, six grandchildren, Candy Anderson and husband, Brandon, Cindy Howard and husband, Peter, and Hope Dellinger; three step grandchildren, Charles “Chaz” Shull, Taylor Shull and Jacklyn Pocciari; four great grandchildren, Elizabeth Harris, Rosie and Gavin Anderson and Reagan Howard, and one step-great great grandson, Maddox Shull. In addition, he is survived by two brothers, Max Umbenour and wife, Margaret, of Stephenson, Willie Umbenour and wife, Joyce, of Clear Brook; sister, Susie Newlin and husband, James, of Frederick County, and many nieces and nephews. They love their two cats “Bear and Smokey” and “Brody” the bulldog who they call their grandson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles W. Umbernour.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Chaplain Peter Ford officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be, Harold “Doc” Madagan Jr., Charles “Chaz” Shull, Brad Omps, Mike Bayne, David Scanlan, Paul Miller, Tony Loy, Bruce Clark and Brandon Anderson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Omps, Conrad DeHaven, Sr., Tim Webb and Frank Haines.
