Douglas Eugene Cooper, 82, of Frederick County, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016 in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Cooper was born in 1934 in Frederick County, Virginia, the son of the late Joseph A. and Lou M. Cooper. Doug worked various positions over the years including 17 years with Sharon Steel in Sharon, Pennsylvania, B & C Bakery in Winchester and ultimately retired after 28 years from Federal Mogel formerly Abex. He was a longtime member of Gainesboro United Methodist Church. Doug was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to so many. He was known for his love of tinkering with his tractors and tending to his cows. He was avid Washington Reskins and a New York Yankee fan. He also enjoyed hunting and curing his own ham whenever possible, although his greatest joy was his family especially spending time with his son and grandson.
Doug married Mary Robinson on May 4, 1956 in Frederick County, Virginia.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 60 years, are his son, Denny Cooper of Frederick County, Virginia and one grandson, Caleb Cooper, also of Frederick County, Virginia; three sisters, Pauline Brown of Sharon, Pennsylvania, Hilda Racey of Winchester, Virginia and Mary Bucher of Winchester, Virginia; one brother, Robert Cooper and his wife Pina of Corpus Christi, Texas as well as many extended family members and close friends.
He is preceded in death by a son Kenneth Cooper, his parents a sister, Georgia Peffer and three brothers, William Cooper, Edward Cooper and Frank Cooper.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening, June 13, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Omps, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Pastor Carol Martin and Pastor Pete Wadsworth will be officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hebron Cemetery.
