Douglas (Doug) Craig Otto, age 73, of Stephenson, Virginia, died at the Winchester Medical Center at 12:08 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2026, with his devoted wife Charlotte by his side. He is also survived by his daughter Cheyenne Levinson, son-in-law Caleb Levinson, grandson Oliver Levinson, and granddaughter Sawyer Levinson, of Raleigh, North Carolina, and son Dylan Otto, of Raleigh, North Carolina. Doug is also survived by three siblings: Mark Otto, Larry Otto, and Cynthia Otto.
Doug was a teacher for 44 years, retiring after 10 years in Jefferson County WV Schools, in 2019. Prior to that, he taught in public and private schools across the globe. He thrived on introducing middle and high school students to the wonders of science. Doug had a breadth of experiences to share based on his travels throughout the world. He used teaching as a means of creating and nurturing a lifelong love of knowledge in his students. Doug was also a masterful and gifted story teller and artist. Doug was an organ donor. His was a life well lived.
Doug volunteered for the past 6 years alongside his wife Charlotte in the food pantry at CCAP, a social services organization helping our community meet basic needs with food, clothing, and financial resources in Winchester, VA.
