Dottie Baker Edwards, 73, of Winchester, Virginia passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017, at Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Care Facility in Winchester, Virginia.
Dottie was born in 1943 in Slanesville, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Hoy and Gladys Baker. Dottie graduated from Capon Bridge High School, Class of 1961. She graduated from Shenandoah College earning a Bachelor of Science degree (1979) and a Master of Science degree (1983) in Business Administration. Dottie also attended Virginia Commonwealth University for an advanced degree. She taught classes at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia and Lord Fairfax Community College in Middletown, Virginia. In the 1980’s Dottie traveled and studied in Japan, China and Hong Kong. In the earlier 1980’s her business activities included Human Resources at American Woodmark in Winchester, Virginia and Staunton/Waynesboro Hospital in Staunton, Virginia. She served as past president of an investment club and vice-president of the Literacy Board in Winchester, Virginia.
From 1989 to 2001 Dottie established, opened and operated the Golden Age Paradise, an assisted living long-term care facility in Martinsburg, West Virginia. In 1992 she received the Outstanding Student Award from Shenandoah University and the Distinguished Alumni Award from Shenandoah Alumni Association in 1994.
Dottie was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winchester and had served on the session and was attending Opequon Presbyterian Church in Winchester.
Surviving is her husband, Leroy Ward Edwards of Winchester, Virginia and his daughter, Deborah Lynn Edwards of Monroe, Virginia; cousins, Betty Jo Baker Bohrer, Mary Ann Baker Crouse, Linda Baker Davis, Kenny Baker, Ronnie Baker, Roger Foltz, Geraldine Baker Burris, Paul Wolford, Leroy Wolford, Johnny Wolford, Eva Wolford, Phillip Bohrer, and Jeff Bohrer.
A celebration of life memorial service will be conducted at 3 pm on Sunday at Opequon Presbyterian Church, 217 Opequon Church Lane, Winchester, Virginia with Pastor David Witt officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church. Inurnment will be private at a later date in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
