Dorothy “Dottie” Claire Howey Kelleher, 87, of Rockingham County, Virginia, died, Monday, April 4, 2016, at Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Center in Winchester, Virginia.
Mrs. Kelleher was born in 1928, in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of the late Ethel and John Adam Howey. She worked at many jobs, a telephone operator in New York, the Bermite Explosives Factory, Northrop Aircraft Inspections and Hughes Aircraft. Mrs. Kelleher was a volunteer at the Carson City Hospital in Nevada, for 18 years, was a “5 Gallon” Red Cross Blood donor as well as a platelet donor. She was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors and the Phone Pioneers in Carson City, Nevada.
She married John Francis Kelleher, Jr. on November 7, 1947, in New York. He preceded her in death in December of 1987.
Surviving are her sons, John F. Kelleher, III and wife, Dorothy, of Broadway, Virginia, Robert A. Kelleher of Villa Rica, Georgia; grandchildren, Amanda K. Kelleher of Dover, Tennessee, Christopher J. Kelleher of Portland, Maine, Michael A. Kelleher of Ingleside, Illinois and great grandchild, Cassidy A. Kelleher.
One sister, Ethel Gordon and one brother, John Adam Howey, preceded her in death.
Services will be held at a later date in California.
