Dorothea Mae Smith, 83 of Winchester, VA, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023 quietly at home.
Dorothea was born in 1940 in Oakland, MD, the daughter of the late, Carl B. Poling and Geraldine (Johnson) Schultz. She was a graduate of Patterson Park High School in Baltimore, MD. Dorothea worked as a legal secretary for Baltimore County Police, FEMA, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office in VA and retired from National Fruit. She attended Lighthouse Full Gospel Church in Stephens City. Dorothea was a member of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and Ladies of the Moose.
She married Richard Wilson Smith, Sr. on July 20, 1957 in Baltimore, MD. He preceded her in death on August 19, 2014.
Dorothea is survived by her daughter, Sherry Lynn Bohnenkamp of Winchester, VA; sons, Richard Wilson Smith, Jr. (Pamela) of Capon Bridge, WV, John Kevin Smith (Crystal) of Winchester, VA; grandchildren, Leroy Kuh, Katherine “Katie” Smith, Victoria “Tori” Smith, Christina Graham, Christopher “Buck” Graham, Christina “Tina” Rogers, Michael Bohnenkamp, Justin Bohnenkamp, Cameron Smith and Isabella Smith; great-grandchildren, Hailee Jenkins, Madison “Madi” Smith, Trey Jenkins, William Kuh and Kenedy Kuh.
The family would like to thank Dr. Hawari and also Blue Ridge Hospice for their care and attentiveness.
A visitation will be held for Dorothea on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 from 6pm to 8pm with a service the following day, Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 1pm, all held at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Mount Olive Cemetery. Officiating will be Reverend Paul E. Markee.
