Donna Dale Black, age 69, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Monday, February 6, 2012, in Winchester Medical Center.

Donna was born in 1942, in Ironton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Donald M. and Margaret Helen Day. She owned and operated the Apple Tree Market for 29 years with her husband, Jack. She also prepared taxes for many years. Donna graduated from Susquehanna University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Chemistry. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi in college. She was of Presbyterian faith.

Donna married R. Jack Black on February 12, 1964, in Winchester, Virginia.

Surviving in addition to her husband is one son, David D. Black and wife, Donna, of Centreville, Virginia; two daughters, Lisa B. Lofton and husband, Gary, of Youngsville, North Carolina and Kirsten B. Tynch and husband, Jack, of Portsmouth, Virginia; and two grandchildren, Logan J. and Callen J. Tynch. A sister, Deborah Ann Brown, preceded her in death.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 10, 2012, at the Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with the Reverend Steve Melester officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.

I am sorry to hear of Donna's passing. I wish comfort to Jack and their children. Thank you Donna for giving me a chance and letting me work at the Apple Tree Market. Because of you I learned what providing real customer service meant at a very young age. I have many wonderful memories of that place and to this day have flash backs anytime I use fireworks, eat fudge, drink hot cider or slice an apple or peach. Thank you Donna!

Donna will be missed by all whom she had come in contact with during her life. She was a very caring, loving person who always had a smile for you. I owe her so much for what she had done for me. My deepest sympathy and love to Jack, David, Lisa and Kirsten.

I had the opportunity to work for Donna at the market, her and Jack opened there home to me one summer to stay with them because my parents where moving and I wanted to keep my job. This was my favorite job and boss. Donna and Jack hold a special place in my hear. Donna will be truly missed. Thoughts and prayers to you Jack and the rest of the family. Kathy Benson

Mrs. Black has touched many peoples lives in more ways than one and that includes mine. She was not just a great boss, but an amazing woman and friend who was always there me. She was like a grandmother to the other coworkers and myself.
