Donald Paul “Don” “Donnie” Cole, 90, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at The Warren in Woodstock, Virginia.
Born on August 18, 1935, in Frederick County, Virginia, Don was the son of the late Lawrence Paul Cole and Frances (Kreamer) Cole. He was a graduate of James Wood High School. Don served his country in the Army National Guard and went on to work for many years as a talented carpenter, spending 20 years with Ricketts and 13 years with Lantz Construction, from which he retired.
A skilled furniture builder and restorer, Don was an active member of the Gainesboro Ruritan Club, volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, and was a former member of the Winchester Moose Lodge. He loved traveling and going on cruises and was a faithful member of Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church and Redland Church.
Don was preceded in death by his first wife, Glenda Jean (Luttrell) Cole, who passed away on August 22, 2009, and his sister, Jane Louise Riley.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Esther Cole; his daughters, Shannon Elaine Cantrell (Robert) and Kimberly Cole DeHaven; stepchildren, Norman Manuel, and Robin Phillips (Kermit); step daughter-in-law, Sharon Manuel; four grandchildren, Adam Cantrell, Abby Lentz, Alan DeHaven, and Aleni DeHaven; and two great-grandchildren, Austin Lentz, and Riley Lentz, along with his 6 step-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren and 2 step great great grandchildren. In addition to his first wife and sister, he was preceded in death by his stepson, the late Irvin Russell Manuel.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, from 5pm to 7pm with a service to be conducted the following day, Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 11am all held at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Burial will follow in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
