Donald Lee Drummond, age 80, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 14, 2026.
Born on November 21, 1945, to Harold J. Drummond and Mary V. Arehart Keller. Donnie lived a life defined by hard work, family, great friends and a genuine appreciation for each day. A hardworking and dependable man, he spent many years as a truck driver, working for McIlwee Trucking, H.H. Omps, Inc., and National Fruit Product Company, Inc., before beginning his long career with Rubbermaid Commercial Products. He retired after 24 years in the Shipping and Receiving Department, where he was respected for his dedication, strong work ethic, and commitment to getting the job well done. Even after his retirement, he never really stopped working. While maintaining his Class A CDL certification, he took great pride in helping his son in-law, Brian Omps, with his towing business. Donnie also enjoyed driving his toys – his tractor, dump truck, and Model T. Donnie was a member of many social and philanthropic clubs.
As an Eagle Scout from an early age, Donnie carried the values of leadership, service, and responsibility throughout his life. He was someone who naturally took charge, always willing to lend a hand, solve a problem, or guide others when needed. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life and took great pride in caring for his home. Whether he was mowing the lawn, tending to his flowers, or nurturing his vegetable garden, he approached each task with dedication, care and perfection.
Sunday drives to flea markets, a stop for ice cream, and time spent in his garage were among his favorite pastimes. His garage was a gathering place where the doors were always open to friends, neighbors, and family. Whether sharing stories, offering advice, or simply enjoying good company, he made everyone feel welcome. He was an avid viewer of the Weather Channel and the History Channel, always curious about the world around him and eager to learn. In his later years, he became deeply passionate about his political beliefs and enjoyed thoughtful discussions about the issues he cared about most.
Donnie was always willing to lend a hand to friends and neighbors, whether offering advice, helping with a project, or simply sharing a conversation. His friendly nature and constant presence in the community earned him the affectionate nickname of “the Mayor of Stephenson,” a title bestowed upon him by those who knew and appreciated him best. Above all, he will be remembered for his strong spirit, generous heart, and lasting impact he made on those who knew and loved him.
Donnie is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Evelyn Blanchfield Drummond; his daughter, Bonita Omps (Brian), his son, Donald Drummond, Jr. (Kim), and his daughter, Donna Ryan (Jack); his grandchildren, Krystal Omps, Dee Drummond, Nicholas Omps (Kathleen), Jackquelin Blackstone (Daniel), Dalton Drummond (Dana), Maggie Ryan and Jake Ryan; his great grandchildren, Logan, Trenton, Leigha, Lydia, Lincoln, William, Henry and Samuel. Donnie was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Harold Drummond, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor his memory by extending kindness to others. Whether through helping a neighbor, lending a hand to a friend, or performing a simple act of generosity, may his spirit of service and compassion for others live on through your actions.
Family and friends are invited to gather in his honor to share memories, celebrate his life, and reflect on the lasting impact he had on all who knew him. The celebration will take place this Sunday, June 21, 2026, at his home in Stephenson. Please feel free to stop by any time between 2 – 5 p.m.
