Donald Lee “Don” Crites, 96, of Summersville, WV, passed away January 8, 2025 at Summersville Healthcare Center.
Don was born in 1928 in Petersburg, WV, son of the late Thomas Ray Crites and Goldie Deerfield Crites. He was a truck driver for many years, starting at Mowry Trucking then working for Allegheny Freight Lines. He had won many awards during his trucking career for his driving skills. Also, he was never involved in an accident that was his fault. After his trucking career, he moved on to Simbeck, Inc. as a diesel mechanic.
He married Edna Ellen Boggess in Kanawha, WV in May of 1946. She preceded him in death on July 4, 2007.
Don is survived by his daughter, Daphne Crites of Stephens City, VA; grandchildren, Nicholas Tipton, John Fout (Jessica), and James Montgomery, Jr.(Lauren); great-grandchildren, Rachel and Jackson Fout; and sister, Beulah McCauley.
Along with his parents and wife, Don is preceded in death by two daughters, Donna Crites Fout and Deborah Crites Tipton; sisters, Mary Alice Hedrick, Waneda Rodgers, and infant sister, Pauline Crites; and brothers, Thomas Crites, Calvin Crites, and Bob Crites.
A committal service for Don will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 2:00pm at the mausoleum chapel at Shenandoah Memorial Park. Officiating will be Reverend Dana Gatewood.
