Donald Joseph Magelitz, Sr.

Donald J. Magelitz, Sr., 80, of Frederick County, VA died Friday, April 17, 2015 at his residence.

Mr. Magelitz was born in 1934 in Johnstown, PA, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Ann Magelitz.  He was a graduate of Ferndale High School, Class of 1953.  Mr. Magelitz was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force and Naval Reserve.  He was employed as an Air Traffic Controller with the Federal Aviation Administration, before retiring in 1985.   Don was a loving father, grandfather and friend to many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He will be forever remembered for his love of airplanes and flying, and the great outdoors where he could enjoy bird watching, hunting and fishing.

Surviving in addition to his former wife, Kay, are daughters, Cynthia Magelitz, Berkeley Springs, WV, Elizabeth Dobosi, Anchorage, AK, and Elaine Deursch (David), Winchester, VA; son, Donald Magelitz, Jr., Manassas, VA; six grandchildren, Jason, Jessica, Marcus, Joyce, Brian, and Eric and seven great grandchildren.

Mr. Magelitz was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine E. Paliszewski.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A reception will follow at Omps Funeral Home Reception Centre. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. at Fort Ashby Cemetery, Fort Ashby, WV.
