Donald J. “Don” Leweck
Donald John “Don” Leweck, 88, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Wednesday, July 31, 2013, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Leweck was born Aurora, Illinois, the son of the late Michael and Margaret Leweck. Mr. Leweck was a Veteran having served in the United States Navy during World War II on a Yard Mine Sweeper, the YMS 55. Mr. Leweck was the last surviving member. He was a retired Facilities Engineer with Harry Diamond Laboratories in Washington D.C.
He married Norma Lee Davis on May 15, 1970, in Severn, Maryland.
“Don was a “skirmisher”, belonging to the N-SSA, first with the Washington Blue Rifles and later with the 12th Regiment, US Regulars, until he became inactive in order to build his home in the area. He joined the Gainesboro Ruritan Club in the early 90s, serving as the Chairman of the Citizenship and Patriotism Committee until his health required him to take an inactive roll.”
Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Donna Kulak and husband, Ed, of Maryland, Margaret Fenton of Florida, Patricia Llewellen of Washington; five sons, Donald Leweck, Jr. and wife, Connie of Arizona, Joseph Leweck and wife, Wendy of New Hampshire, Robb Sauerhoff and wife, Gail, of Connecticut, Gil Tercenio and wife, Lisa of Virginia and Dana Fenner and wife, Chris of West Virginia; 16 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. In addition are step-sister, Elaine O’Meara of Virginia and step-brother, Kenneth Prescher of Florida.
One sister, Mary Ann Lewis, preceded Don in death.
A memorial service and reception to celebrate Don’s Life will be held on September 15th at the Gainesboro Fire and Rescue Hall starting at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Don’s memory to the Gainesboro Fire and Rescue 221 Gainesboro Road, Winchester, Virginia, 22603.
