Donald Henry “Don” Loomis, 71, of Watertown, New York passed away Friday, March 30, 2018 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Donald was born in 1946 in Watertown, New York, the son of the late Bradford L. and May E. Loomis. He graduated from General Brown High School, Class of 1968. Mr. Loomis was very involved with the Scouts having served for more than 40 years – he was Scout Master for Troop #1 for 18 years, Cub Scout swimming instructor for 20 years and also served on the committee for the Brotherhood Camporee for 45 years. Donald loved being outdoors and enjoyed camping where he would always have a big camp fire. He loved to work on crafts, especially his woodworking. Don also enjoyed all types of sports and watching them. Don would help anybody whenever they needed help, loved dancing, spending the winters in Florida, and talking to anybody. He especially loved to spend time with his three grandsons.

Donald is survived by his wife, Linda Dick, whom he married on July 6, 1968 in Brownville, New York.

Surviving with his wife, Linda is a son Donald H. Loomis, Jr. (Celeste Krawchuk) of Winchester, Virginia; three grandsons, Dylan Loomis, Tyler Loomis and Ian Loomis, all of Winchester, Virginia; and a brother William “Bill” Loomis, (Margaret), of Brooksville, Florida.
Donald is preceded in death by a sister, Jean Teeps, and two brothers, John “Jack” Loomis and James “Jim” Loomis.

All services are being handled by Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel and will be private.

Upon hearing of Don's passing, many memories of him at the swim program, scout camp, brotherhood camporees, etc. have come to mind. Most importantly, I always remember Don as a great family man and I know he will be deeply missed by all. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time, and my memories of Don will always be cherished.

Remember Don and Vic Bicknell always having something of interest at scouting events many years ago. Also remember Don coming by the supply house to pickup electrical parts for Vincent at Dexelctric He was always in the best of spirits

My deepest sympathy for our loss of Don Loomis. He touched so many lives through Boy Scouts. I have many wonderful memories of him in my life as I was part of Troop 1. He was very supportive of my journey to Eagle. He set the example for us all in commitment to those he served and the values I carry on. I still remember the day he came to help me when my VW broke down coming back from Camp Portaferry! Always there for you. My prayers to family and friends.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. Mr. Loomis (Don) will be missed. He was a scout leader while I was growing up. He mentored me in so many ways. I worked for him for several yrs while he was running the Cub Scout Swims. It was men like Don who inspired me to continue into scouting as a young adult. And finally being the scoutmaster of my own troop for several yrs. It was his laugh that came to my mind first when I heard of his passing.
