Donald (Don) Franklin Snapp, age 66, of Middletown, VA lost his courageous battle with cancer on Friday, June 28, 2013. He died peacefully in his home, his loving wife by his side.
He was born September 4, 1946 in Martinsburg, WV, son of the late Earl F. Snapp and his wife Edna Hawkins and the late Geraldine Haines and her late husband Marcus Haines.
Don graduated from James Wood High School in 1964. He was a veteran having served the United States Army in Vietnam where he was awarded numerous medals including the Purple Heart.
He began his professional career in Winchester with Intertype, later going on to earn a MS in Business and becoming the Operations Manager at Baker Instruments.
Don’s passion for drag racing and his love of cars led him and his wife to open and operate Snappy Lube in 1987. They remained in business serving the community for 24 years. Don valued the support and dedication of his employees over the years. He was also very fond of all of their faithful customers.
Surviving with his wife, Pat, of 24 years, are two stepdaughters, Kelly Nemzek of Winchester and Kristy Walker and husband, Glenn of Winchester. Sisters, Joyce Ruffner and husband, Lee of Winchester, Connie Lupton and husband Roger of Stephens City; Brothers, Steve Haines of Winchester and Jeff Snapp of Orrtanna, PA; Aunts, Betty Denny and Lucille Brown and Uncle Jim Snapp and wife, Ellie; Five grandchildren, Hagen Nemzek and wife, Brittany, Dylen Nemzek, Renton Nemzek, Reese Walker, and Campbell Walker; Two great-grandchildren, Riley Nemzek and Maddox Nemzek and his stepmother, Edna Hawkins of Tennessee.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A graveside ceremony will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, at Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Junior Blanchfield, Donnie Drummonds, Ronnie Loy, John Rudolph, Ronnie Simkhovitch and Josh Zilke.
