Donald Eugene McIntire, 82 of Winchester, VA, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at his home.
Donnie was born in 1941 in Frederick County, VA, the son of the late Melvin and Ruth (Michael) McIntire. Donnie was a graduate of James Wood High School. He retired after 39 years having worked as salesman for Royal Crown Cola and Murray Cookies. Donnie enjoyed hunting, dancing, and going to the beach, especially Colonial Beach and Aruba. He was a member of the Elks Club, Winchester Eagles and the Winchester Moose Lodge and with each of those he was very involved with the tip jars and that is where his nickname “Butter” came from.
Donnie is preceded in death by his first wife Bonnie McIntire having been married for 46 wonderful years until her passing in 2008 and his brother, Sylvester “Dump” McIntire.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ward; daughters, Shannon Lockhart (Scott) and Stacy Snapp (Mike); grandchildren, Kristle Snapp, Cody Snapp (Kelsie), Whitney Lockhart (Carla) and Katie Lockhart; great-grandchildren, Levi, Luke, Hayleigh, Aubrey, Jake, Holdon and Kolton; sister, Bonnadean “Bonnie” Carter and his brother, Robert McIntire (Judy).
A visitation will be held for Donnie on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 10am with a service to follow at 11:30am at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Mount Olive Cemetery on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 11am. Pastor Alan Morrison will officiate.
Since he loved playing the tip jars, we will be having a tip jar at his visitation/funeral and part of the winnings received will be donated back to the Winchester Elks Lodge to help them with community needs that they serve.
