Donald D. Stokes
Donald D. Stokes, 81, of Winchester, VA passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014 in the Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Stokes was born in 1933 in Shenandoah County, the son of the late Walter L. and Ethel M. Stokes. He was a graduate of Strasburg High School, and a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War in the 98th Military Police Battalion. He had been employed as a salesman at Carquest and was a member of the Word of Life Ministries in Stephenson, VA.
Mr. Stokes married Thelma (Wolford) Stokes on April 18, 1971 in Frederick County, VA.
Surviving with his wife are three sons, Ronald D. Stokes and wife, Brenda of Florida, Donald D. Stokes and Ricky L. Stokes, both of Woodstock, VA, and three brothers, Charles W. “Bill” Stokes, Sr. and wife, Shirley and Walter E. “Gene” Stokes and wife, Mary, all of Strasburg and Roy L. Stokes and wife, Bonnie of Stephens City, VA., as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Stokes was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth E. Stokes and Ray M. Stokes.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Ron Neff officiating. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum, and military honors will be accorded by VFW Post 2123.
