Don was born on September 5, 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio, and was the son of the late Charles F. and Helen C. Klika. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, achieving the rank of Corporal and receiving the Korean Conflict Victory Medal. Mr. Klika was a self-employed architect. He was an avid Redskins fan, and enjoyed fishing, dancing, strolling through Walmart and talking to employees that he knew, eating at IHOP, and spending time with his family which included his Bichon dogs. Mr. Klika also enjoyed debating political views, was a member of the American Legion and Elks Club, and coached many different Little League and Babe Ruth baseball teams. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
Surviving are daughter, Debbie Klika Robinson; sons, Don Klika, Jr. and wife, Wendy, Mike Klika, John Klika and wife, Debbie; grandchildren, Tom Caskey and wife, Tina, Christina Bayse and husband, John, Jessica Robinson, Megan Jones and husband, Brian, Charlie Klika, John Klika, Jr. and Ritchie Bulger; seven great grandchildren; sister, Katherine Bewley and husband, Greg; his beloved Gerry Klika Kahn; his many nieces and nephews; his loving companion, Cecilia Diehl and his Bichon, Bridget.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, 1600 Amherst Street, Winchester, VA 22601.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday with Father Brendan Bartlett officiating at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 130 Keating Drive, Winchester, Virginia. Interment will be in Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers….as Don would say….”don’t sweat the small stuff and always, always tell those closest to you that you love them”.
