Dollye Christine Shelburn Mitchell, 98, of Winchester, Virginia died Monday, one week short of her 99th birthday with her family by her side.
Mrs. Mitchell was born in 1912 in Elizabethtown, KY the daughter of the late Spencer and Ella Shelburn. Mr. Leon Mitchell, whom she married on July 22, 1937, preceded her in death in May of 1981.
She attended Oberlin College in Ohio and Shenandoah College in Winchester. Dollye ran a catering business in Bedford, Ohio prior to her move to Winchester in 1960 to operate the local Culligan Water Conditioning with her husband, Leon. Pursuing her love of catering she purchased The Battletown Inn in Berryville in 1968. After selling the Inn in early 1981, she chose a new career as a real estate agent for Huntsberry Realty. Dollye was a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church, a member of The Lord Fairfax Garden Club along with many other ladies functions, an avid antiques collector and lover of the game of Bridge; which she was a member of many bridge clubs in Winchester and often played 4-5 times a week well into her mid-nineties.
Surviving is a son, Randall Mitchell of Winchester, Virginia; two daughters, Carloyn Krebs and her husband Robert of Bradford, Pennsylvania, Lorilee Molden and her husband Dennis of Winchester, Virginia; four grandchildren, Robert and Amy Molden of Middletown, Virginia; Denni and Josh Backstrom of Eleva, Wisconsin; Susan and Tim Harmon of Winchester, Virginia; twelve great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, William Shelburn, and a great grandson, Evertt Molden.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday at Shenandoah Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00-8:00 pm at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
