Dixie L. Farmer, 81, of Stephens City, Virginia, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Winchester Medical Center.

Dixie was born on February 1, 1945, in Tacoma, Washington, to the late Richard William Babel and Elaina Elizabeth (Young) Babel. She earned her high school diploma and spent 21 years working as a machine operator in manufacturing, later working for Hard Hanks, an advertising company. Dixie spent her recent years residing at Winchester Health and Rehab, where she thoroughly enjoyed the daily activities and cherished the many friendships she formed.

She was preceded in death by her beloved first husband, Samuel Waters Redmond III, whom she married in Tacoma, Washington, and who passed away on September 26, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Stephanie Ann Redmond; five sisters; and sons-in-law, George Psathas and David Shears and second husband, Chester Farmer .

She is survived by her loving daughters: Virginia “Jenny” Viola Smith, Ruth Marie Redmond, and Samantha “Sam” Lynn Hunt (Randy); and her sister, Virginia “Jenny” Crouch.

Dixie leaves behind a rich legacy of family, including her 14 grandchildren: Crystal Smith, Samuel Smith, Steven Smith (Jayme), Cheyanne Morton, Jessica McGowan, Zachary Millward, Meagan Wigley, Kara Wigley, Stacy Hunt, Thomas Hunt, Brooke Millward, Ariana Psathas, Heather Hipsley, and Taylor Griffith and her 15 great-grandchildren: Joseph Smith, Anieya Smith, Talen Hunt, Alexia Hipsley, Sonya Wigley, Violet Smith, Vivian Wetzel, Camden Smith, Savannah Morton, Andrew McGowan, Noah Smith, Kayden Smith, Eric Phippin, Mia Phippin and Hazel Morton.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
