Deaver Caleb Carr, 85, of Winchester, Virginia, died Thursday, March 3, 2016, at his home.
Mr. Carr was born in 1930, in Germantown, Maryland, the son of the late Florence and Deaver Paul Carr as well as Esther and Leonard Ellis who helped in raising Deaver. He was a graduate of Stonewall High School, Class of 1950. Mr. Carr was a Veteran having served in the United States Navy. He was employed as an Air Traffic Controller with the Federal Aviation Administration and was also an active member of NARFE for many years. Deaver was a long time parishioner of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and usher for many years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many. He will be greatly missed.
He married Evelyn “Ev” Kirk on November 26, 1953, in Baltimore, Maryland.
Surviving with his wife of 62 years are two daughters, Cynthia Wood and her husband, Don, of Centreville, Virginia, Kimberley Hughes and her husband, Scott, of Loganville, Georgia; one son, Scott Carr and his wife, Elizabeth, of Suffolk, Virginia; 6 grandchildren; Jonathan Wood, Andrea Hughes, Trent Carr, Amanda Wood, Carly Hughes and Trace Carr; 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Boyd, Anna Wells, Naomi Russo and her husband, Jim, Isabelle Bass and her husband, Frank, brother, Eugene Carr and his wife, Linda, as well as many extended family members including the Ellis family.
One brother, Burton Carr, preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, 4:00-6:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday, at First Baptist Church of Winchester, with Pastor George Fletcher officiating. Interment will be private at Shenandoah Memorial Park.
